group presentation BY lIZ, danielle, beth, emily and jennyTHE RESPECTHICAL MIND GROUPThese upper strategies are shared by Gardner in a macro lens for k-12 educators? What strategy could art teachers use to facilitate the respectful mind? How do art teachers cultivate respect? How to achieve mutual respect in the classroom? I have not taught visual arts in the classroom yet, just based on my experience teaching Mandarin, What I am doing in my Mandarin class in pre-school is repeating my expectations in the beginning of class every time. Kids are expected to respect me, to each other, themselves. I always give kids three chances to avoid going to principal’s office, and kids could help me observe each other. I remember that one time a kid named Luke broke the classroom rules many times and I gave him two warnings, but it did not work. When it reached to the third time, he was supposed to go to principal’s office while he was afraid of going with me and saying that he would be well-behaved. Since I have promised if students get the three warnings, he/she should go to the principal’s room. If I gave Luke another CHANCE, how do I model my role as an honest teacher? So I asked the rest of kids, what did they think about it? How would they do if they were me as a teacher? My kids said that they wanted to give him one more chance/last chance, so that Luke could behave well. Another strategy I used in pre-school classroom is telling students to greet each other in Mandarin class every time in the beginning of the class. They practice language, meanwhile they learn to greet peers, respect peers and me as well.
